Whilst working to help promote Singapore Lounge and revamp it’s brand. I created some boards inside the bar. Before they just had plain walls, with discussion with the owner we set up 3 black boards opposite the bar and it direct function for customers, advertising and promoting in store offers. This includes the Function Room they have downstairs which was previously poorly advertised. I got black board paint pens and designed each board accordingly to grab attention and put across the relevant information. Since the board about the function room, there has been several interests and bookings (which I have also designed the room, in another blog post) This was just as it was now more obvious and put out there so when customers come in for a drink they’re reading it and spurring interest. The other boards I have created where advertising what drinks where new in which aimed to again promote and for people to try rather than going for typical drinks. Singapore wanted to start rebranding and getting in drinks that weren’t found typically at any bar such as the Belgium beer ‘Leffe’ and the original Budweiser ‘Budvar’ to start getting customers to try these and spur interest I feel the boards helped. There is also a Cocktail menu board with I accompanied the Title and description with quick sketches to again spur interest into buying one, or 2. Originally there was a cocktail menu on the far wall which in the dark was very hard to see and people often missed. Since being up I have seen particular interest. There is also plans (Discussed with the manager) to get spotlights put up above these boards to make them stand out even more. These are being screwed into the wall.

Inspiration for black boards.
Black boards are the main way to advertise a bar/pub/restaurant. Inspiration found from this comes from all around. Some artistic qualities that come from what I’ve seen around is the use of shadowing and big thick titles. The use of shadowing behind a title makes it more prominent and artistic, which was what I tried to create. I found the most important parts of information where 2x larger than the other writings which again was something I used. I also used bold bright colours to make the board more contrasted and bold. When looking around at boards, I found that imagery to accompany the wording also works well, such as drawing a few cocktails on the cocktail board worked well in making it more interesting and separating it up.
